Personalized Approach to Breast Reconstruction
Every woman's journey is different, and so is every breast reconstruction plan. When you choose Dr. Stutman for your reconstruction, you’ll receive a comprehensive consultation where your medical history, surgical history, and personal expectations are carefully reviewed. Together, we’ll create an individualized reconstruction plan that best meets your needs.
Reconstruction Options Available
Dr. Stutman offers two main types of breast reconstruction:
- Implant-Based Reconstruction
This is one of the most common reconstruction methods and involves using breast implants to restore breast shape and volume. Many women are candidates for implant-based reconstruction, which can be performed either immediately after a mastectomy or at a later date, depending on your circumstances and medical plan. - Autologous (Tissue-Based) Reconstruction
For some patients, using their own tissue may be the preferred option. In autologous reconstruction, tissue is usually taken from the abdomen, back, or another donor site to create a natural-looking breast. This option can provide longer-lasting results and avoid potential complications associated with implants.
When Should Reconstruction Be Performed?
Breast reconstruction can be performed in one of two ways:
- Immediate Reconstruction: This occurs at the same time as your mastectomy, allowing for a smoother transition and often fewer surgeries overall.
- Delayed Reconstruction: In some cases, reconstruction may be done at a later date, after your body has healed from the mastectomy or after you’ve completed any necessary treatments, such as chemotherapy or radiation.
Your treatment plan will be coordinated with your mastectomy surgeon, medical oncologist, and radiation oncologist to ensure the best outcome for your health and aesthetic goals.
